ESRB Rate PS Classic ‘Destrega’, List Platforms as PS3 and PSP
I’m really loving the ESRB at the moment, but not because of what they actually do. They have the tendency to break news unintentionally: today has brought another one of those times, with the ratings board possibly spilling the beans by awarding a 1998 fighting game called Destrega a ‘Teen’ rating and listing its platforms as PlayStation 3 and PSP.
Using my wonderful research skills (Google is my friend), I have found that Destrega is an old Playstation fighting game developed by Koei (the 32-year-old videogame developer who recently merged with Tecmo and published Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2). The fighting style of the game is supposedly quite unique, in that if offers players the ability to roam and fight freely in large environments and engage in ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’ style combat.
I’m sure there’s a small group of Destrega fans out there who will love to hear that their beloved game is being ported to the PlayStation 3 and PSP. For everyone else? Perhaps a chance to try something old and new at the same time.
IGN rated it as Mediocre 11 years ago, but praised its looks, many game modes and character models. If you like taking risks, maybe venture onto the PlayStation Store when this is released and give it a go.

I actually played the demo of Destrega a lot, back in the day. I liked it but could never find a copy. Thinking back, it was actually quite a shit game – imagine those awful Street Fighter matches which consist of nothing but Ryu vs Akuma hurling fireballs at each other. Now add in a weird almost top-down camera and set it over a large field. It wasn’t great. Still, quite tempted to pick it up if for no other reason than to finally have it.
