Music Monday: ‘Tis The Season

Welcome to Music Monday, the best way to start off your week! Each week Jon will profile a popular videogame-related musician/band to add to your music library.

Ah, finally it’s that magical time of the year we’ve been waiting since last Christmas for! Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays/Traditional Non-denominational Greetings to you all.

To celebrate, I think it’s necessary that we look to the world of Christmas music to put ourselves in the mood. No, this isn’t the same soundtrack you’ll hear blasted from every department store speaker this week. This is video game Christmas music, baby. So snuggle up with something warm, stare at the tree, and take some time to hear these wonderful seasonal tunes.

This week we’ve got “Joy to Commando” from Doctor Octoroc’s 8-Bit Jesus, “Christmas In Nightopia” from the Christmas NiGHTS soundtrack, and Rush Coil’s “Deck The Halls” from 8-Bit Christmas.

Music Fact: When not making beautiful music, Doctor Octoroc is making even better Perler bead art.

Music Fact: Yes, you’re seeing that right; there was a Christmas spin-off to the SEGA Saturn hit NiGHTS Into Dreams.

Music Fact: 8-Bit Christmas is Rush Coil’s only album, which is a shame given the awesomeness of it.

And finally, here’s a little Christmas gift for all of you: my all-time favorite Christmas tune, That Handsome Devil with “Mr. Grinch”.
