Music Monday:Of Fungi and Foe

The unsettling, creepy vibe of Claypool's music fits perfectly with the vibe of Mushroom Men.

Welcome to Music Monday, the best way to start off your week! Each week Jon will profile a popular videogame related musician/band to add to your music library.

I was always impressed with the audio from the Mushroom Men games that came out a few years back. While the games themselves weren’t spectacular, the ambient music and sounds sure were. This was helped by the fact that a good bit of the game’s music was composed by the great Les Claypool, of Primus, Sausage, Colonel Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, Oysterhead, and Electric Apricot fame (just to name a few). For this week’s Music Monday I thought we’d take a look at the wonderful music created for the Mushroom Men games, with two tracks by one of the greatest and most prolific bassists the world has ever seen.

Here’s Les Claypool with “Mushroom Men” and “Mean Mr. Mushwoom”, and GL33k with “A Mountain and Me”.

“Mushroom Men”

Music Fact: “Mushroom Men” can be found on Claypool’s third solo album Of Fungi and Foe.

“Mean Mr. Mushwoom”

Music Fact: This is on Of Fungi and Foe as well, under the name “Amanitas”

“A Mountain and Me”

Music Fact: While Claypool didn’t work on this song, composer GL33k samples his bass track from “Mushroom Men” to great effect.
