Nukezilla Review: Call of Duty: Black Ops (Xbox 360)

[This is the review for the multiplayer portion of the game. Click here for our review of the single player]
Treyarch stick to the formulaic, scripted sequence design for the single player but have made some quite wonderful changes to the multiplayer that really mix up the series for the better. Modern Warfare 2 didn’t feel like a significant enough leap from its prequel, but the introduction of a versatile & expansive points system and bot match “combat training” breathe new air into a multiplayer experience that was arguably close to suffering from a terminal case of repetitiveness.
Other additions like the Haloesque file sharing & theatre options, the ability to play online split-screen and the emblem creation add further length & quality to what I’d go as far as saying is the best multiplayer in the Call of Duty series.
Simply put, Black Ops‘ multiplayer component is refreshingly brilliant; the presidential zombie mode is the icing on a rather tasty cake.

This review is Day 4 of the December Review Nukestravaganza.

The emblem creation tool has just resulted in lots of cock and ball drawings everywhere, the map design is horrendous, the weapon balance is mind-bogglingly stupid and they have forced light auto-aim even if you select auto-aim to be off. Really, the best CoD multiplayer? Even CoD3 wasn’t balanced this poorly.
@Ace Flibble: You so crazy, Flibble!
It really is quite good. Don’t remember either Modern Warfare or World at War getting its claws in quite this deep.
I’d like to hear Brett Parson’s view of multi-player, likewise Harry’s on the single player campaign.
What I really want is difference of opinion, name calling and fist fights. :)
