SRRN RPG Ash Gets Control and Difficulty Update
Indie developer SRRN Games has released an updated version of iOS-exclusive RPG Ash, adding a virtual D-pad, a higher level cap and a more forgiving difficulty curve early on.
The update was promised off the back off several reviews and forum threads that noted the awkward controls – yes, this is one of those rare cases where a developer has taken the trouble to listen to what the gaming community is telling it.
The D-pad, which can be toggled on and off from the pause menu, is a particularly welcome addition to the 16-bit era inspired RPG. Controlling your character outside of battle was one of the more frustrating aspects of the original release, requiring you to tap and hold the screen in the direction you want to move. All well and good until you need to head north, at which point your view of the screen will almost certainly be obscured by your finger. Not being a vain hand model, this wasn’t ideal.
The updated version also ups the level cap from 32 to 40, and makes the beginning of the game a bit easier by starting your party off with better equipment and spreading potions more liberally near the beginning of the game.
The developer has already mentioned that a sequel is planned.

Wait, there’s a 16-bit style RPG on iPhone and no one told me? Thanks guys.
Ugh, damn. I spent an hour or two just grinding outside of a village, and I’m constantly on the brink of broke because I make just enough money to cover the inn by the time I have to go back.
Wonder if the update will just give you the equipment no matter where the player is in game?
Hah, my way out of that was to run back across the map to a town with a cheaper inn – being able to flee any random battle without fail certainly has benefits.
