Tony Hawk: Shred Records Very Poor Sales in October
Tony Hawk, a franchise that hasn’t been relevant since the last numbered Pro Skater iteration, might have just heard its death knell.
October NPD sales data shows that the new Tony Hawk: Shred sold less than 3,000 copies in the US. That’s Rock Revolution numbers, people. The sequel to Tony Hawk: Ride, Shred is similar to its predecessor in that you use a horribly-designed plastic skateboard peripheral to play. No word on how many of the sales were the full version or the disc-only version, for those that had previously purchased Ride. Regardless, this doesn’t bode well for the Tony Hawk series — now on its 11th game.
I had a chance to play Ride when it was first released, and couldn’t stand using the skateboard peripheral. It was way, way too buggy and unresponsive. It’s actually more useful as a skateboard than as a game controller. Hopefully Activision will put this series out of its misery after the poor performance here.
