Fallout: New Vegas DLC Coming December 21st, Xbox Only

Awesomest-videogame-of-the-year Fallout: New Vegas is getting its first DLC package, bringing new “terrain, foes and choices” to the Mojave Wasteland. Coming December 21st for 800 MS Points, the DLC will only be available for Xbox 360 users, however.

Bethesda have followed the same pattern with its Fallout 3 DLC, which was announced in 2008 and then released just under a year after on PS3. There was speculation that Microsoft had thrown some money into the picture (similar to the GTA IV DLC) but nobody’s ever confirmed this.

The DLC has been titled “Dead Money” and sees the courier captured by an unnamed group who then forces you to join up with three other wastelanders to capture the treasure of the Sierra Madre casino. Gamespot points out that this is a reference to the The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, where four adventurers seek out gold and eventually turn on each other. Sounds like a great idea for a Fallout mission.

There’s little else known, especially whether or not it’ll add more levels or a continuation of the story after the final mission. I won’t spoil, but there seemed like lots that could have been done, especially relating to what choices you made.

There were five Fallout 3 DLCs released so hopefully we’ll see a number of other packages and some the PC and PlayStation 3 launches in good time. NV is built on the same Fallout engine, so hopefully they’ll plan the DLC in a similar way.

Generic Purple Turtle Says:

:O what about PC. Surely thats counts as a microsoft platform?

Sam Jordan Says:

Indeed, you’d think so. It launched on the PC with Fallout 3 at the same time as the Xbox, too.

Jack Frost Says:

Well, I’m interested in this, sure, but Obsidian is going to have to fix a game-breaking glitch before I can even finish the original game.

Apparently the robots in Vault 11 are faction-linked to the Securitrons at The Lucky 38. And since I’d done Vault 11 already, when I try to enter The Lucky 38, all of the robots attack me on sight and I can never talk to Mr. House.

Not talking to House means no Lucky 38 suite, no picking up that last snowglobe and none of his quests open.

I’m hoping that they release a patch soon to rectify this because having no way to finish the game properly as my reward for visiting everything else in the Wasteland before going to The Strip is kind of shitty.

Sam Jordan Says:

I’ve not personally had any game-ending glitches, but I do have a slight judder/freeze every 30 seconds or so. I just kind of forgive it though, because it’s so awesome.

That bug sounds especially bad. House’s missions are really good.

Jack Frost Says:

I was loving the game until I encountered that bug.

All the other glitchy things being easy to overlook as they were not constant. Even my console freezing only happens on rare occasion…

However, in trying to contact Obsidian to get them to address the issue, I discovered that their president is Feargus Urquhart who used to purchase his comic books from me back in the day.

Perhaps he might remember me and might want to help? :D

Because, yeah, this is a spectacularly bad bug.

Spleeny Says:

@Jack Frost: Heh, I encountered that bug the other way around and didn’t mind it so much – none of the turrets in Vault 11 attacked me, because I was already best buddies with House’s robots.

Jack Frost Says:

@Spleeny: Wow, that’s just fuckin’ crazy!

It never even occurred to me it would work the other way around. :D

And as a side note, it was pretty shitty of Bethesda/Obsidian to take off for Thanksgiving without patching the game. Not a single person who has a glitched game can play it over the long weekend.

Nice.
