Six Slant Possibly Developing New Resident Evil

An allegedly leaked document passed on to Kotaku claims Socom: Confrontation developers Six Slant Games are working on a new, multiplayer-focused title in Capcom’s Resident Evil series. The game’s tentative title is Resident Evil: Raccoon City.

When asked about the game in question by Kotaku, Capcom of course replied with a standard “We don’t comment on rumors or speculation”.  Six Slant Games is located in Vancouver, the home of Dead Rising 2 developer Blue Castle Games (soon to be re-branded Capcom Games Vancouver, after a recent acquisition by the publisher).

It’s relatively easy to believe this is all true. Capcom has proven that they’re far from shy about dealing with western development houses. Whether it’s an admittedly small project like an HD port of Street Fighter II or a change that makes waves, like handing off Devil May Cry to Ninja Theory, Capcom will work with the west if they feel it’s the right direction.

Resident Evil 4 was excellent and created the current framework for third-person shooters we all know and love today with its “behind-the-back” camera (long before Gears of War, Cliffy B was all about the game). Resident Evil 5 on the other hand, was less than stellar. I found it fun, but I think fans are definitely waiting on the next big change. In some form, it sounds like Resident Evil: Raccoon City could be it.
