The Guardian Visits LucasArts For Force Unleashed II
“What did you do today,” your wife asks as you sit down for tea. “Just visited LucasArts, met Darth Vadar and some stormtroopers. You?”
You have to be jealous, don’t you? The Guardian‘s Keith Stewart recently visited California to have a look around the world-famous LucasArts studios and it seems the staff pulled out all the stops in trying to make him feel welcome. Six Stormtroopers and Darth Vadar welcome him to expansive ranch, which LucasArts shares with industrial Light and Magic, the famous special effects crew.
The article is a fascinating read and details all the different sights inside the studio (Han trapped in carbonite as well as a fan-made Jar Jar in carbonite – awesome) as well as concept art and drawings from various films. It also goes into the technology both LucasArts and ILM use, sometimes crossing-over: “It can take all night to render a single frame of a movie CG sequence – a video game needs to render 30 frames a second.”
The article’s a great read and if you’re a Star Wars fan (and you’re a videogame nerd, so you should be) it’s pretty awesome. There’s a second part coming tomorrow, so keep an eyeout for that.
