Telltale’s Back to the Future Behind the Scenes: Part III

Well. That was quick. Apparently promising something “next week” has started to mean “Monday” again.

Part III of GameTrailer’s behind the scenes footage explores how Telltale decided to build the game in pre-production. Dennis Lenart (first episode director) is back, claiming that Telltale had to create a new story without angering fans of the original movies. He explains that this will be accomplished by character design (naturally), camera angles and lighting design, always asking, “Would this be seen in a Back to the Future movie”? He later goes on to confirm that the first episode takes place six months after Back to the Future III, as Christopher Lloyd had hinted in the first installment.

Included is new concept art: Einstein (cute), the Lone Pine Mall parking lot, the DeLorean, and a young Doc Brown.

Let’s back that one up. Telltale has created a new, younger Doc Brown (pictured) — we’re talking high school or university age — which would logically lead to speculation that at some point in these episodes, Marty’s going to go back in time to Doc’s high school days to help him out in some capacity. Lenart explains that the game involves Marty traveling “through all different time periods…helping to sort of figure things out for Doc”. It brings to mind a sort of alternate first movie, wherein Marty, after screwing around with the space/time continuum in the first place, must now help Doc become re-interested in time travel. Or something.

There’s no advertisement for another video, only another plug for the world-premiere trailer on December 2.

I hope “December 2″ means “tomorrow.”
