Telltale’s Back to the Future Behind the Scenes: Part I

Note: Back to the Future trilogy spoilers contained within. Although, seriously, it’s been 25 years. You should have seen them by now.

Yesterday, GameTrailers released Part I of their behind the scenes videos for the upcoming (but still not dated) Back to the Future episodic series.

Included in the video are soundbites from Bob Gale (co-creator of the trilogy and consultant for the game). Christopher Lloyd (reprising his role as Doc Brown), Dennis Lenart (the director of the first episode) and Julian Kwasneski (voice director). The video shows test footage and a piece of concept art of what seems to be Doc Brown’s house (note the giant speaker), indicating at least part of the game takes place in “current-day” (1985) Hill Valley. Christopher Lloyd points out that the game starts out “about six months after Back to the Future III“.

While the video has certainly gotten me even more excited for the release (if that’s possible), the Back to the Future nut in me is a bit worried. Lenart sets the stage by saying that Marty has to go back/forward in time to save Doc Brown, and “all of a sudden, the DeLorean appears”.  You know, the one and only time-traveling DeLorean, that got destroyed at the end of the third movie. I guess that flying time-traveling train Doc Brown rigged up could still be around somewhere.

Personally, my favorite part was Bob Gale saying, “It’s great to finally get a game that looks like it’s going to be done the right way”.  Even he acknowledges that the other games sucked.

Actually, this one was kind of fun.

The ever-so-short video ends with a promise of Part II to launch sometime today, and a teaser of the world-premiere trailer to be aired on SpikeTV on December 2. Get to it, Telltale!
