Red Dead “Undead Nightmare” DLC Coming Oct. 26th

I’ll be honest, I’ve not played Red Dead Redemption in a while. It’s not that it’s a bad game (quite the contrary) it’s just that there’s nothing much to do. Once you tie up criminals (or not) with your lasso, gallop around on your horse and do a couple of bounty missions the game is kind of, well, boring.

Depending on how much of a cheapskate I am, I might actually get to sit down and enjoy Red Dead once more, however, as Rockstar releases my most anticipated DLC: the one with zombies.

The “Undead Nightmare” pack brings with it a fresh single player section, with “hours” of new gameplay where “a zombie plague ravages the once bountiful frontier, decimating the landscape and reawakening the dead.” This includes four zombie classes (funny how mutation is always so organised) as well as undead bears, cougars, wolves and other critters.

It’s up John Marston to find a cure for the zombie outbreak, as well as partake in a new mission-type, “Missing Persons”, where you have to locate a human in the crowd of the undead. There also includes a new multiplayer mode where you have to fight off horde after horde of zombies, plus a couple of new weapons. All of the above is set to launch October 26th for 800 MS Points or $9.99/£7.99 on the PSN.

While nothing new (zombies really have been done to death) this should be fairly entertaining and renew my interest for at least a few hours. Red Dead was my flavour of the month for a while and despite its problems (the worst morality system I’ve ever seen) it certainly broke new ground for open world games. And had some sexy lasso physics.

Gavin Allmond Says:

I was surprised to see it wasn’t just going to be a tacked-on mode ahla World at War, but rather more story like content. Even if it does reverse the ending of the game a little.

Jack Frost Says:

While I’m getting pretty bored with zombies, it’ll be cool to play as John Marston again.

I heard a rumor that there were going to be 4 new mounts as well: The 4 Horses of the Apocalypse. Apparently War has a flaming mane that causes the undead to burst into flames when they get close. And the new Blunderbuss weapon will use pieces of the undead for ammo – that sounds kinda odd…

Sam, what didn’t you like about the morality system? Unless I’m misunderstanding what you’re referencing, I rather liked it. I thought it was great that while you could run around like a trigger-happy idiot, the rewards for not doing so were greater.

@Gavin Allmond: I’m pretty sure R* has said that Undead Nightmare is supposed to be an alternate timeline, which means that it doesn’t have anything to do with the story in the main game.
