G4 Breaks Down California Videogame Law in Four Part Series

The California videogame law which is currently being debated in the US Supreme Court is certainly an issue that can be pretty complicated. The different positions, legal terms and sides can leave you rather confused, and I certainly have been. I’ve written a competent round-up of the basic issues, but if you’re looking to go into real depth G4 has penned some very good articles on the subject.

In four separate parts (only three have been published at time of writing) G4‘s Jake Gaskill has broken down the case in a rather good way. First, he examines the initial 2005 bill that was introduced and then immediately challeged by pro-videogame groups and thus never enforced. In part two he looks at California’s arguments and the second attempt to get the bill enacted through the California appeals court. In the third part he examines the arguments of the pro-videogame lobbyists: the Entertainment Software Association and the Entertainment Merchants Association.

All three (I think number four is due to go up today) are well written and go into enough detail to feel you’re fairly well informed on the issue, while still remaining interesting. There will be lots developing around this story in the next few weeks as the court dates get closer, so expect plenty of coverage of this pretty important issue.
