FIFA 11 Inevitably Takes Top Spot in UK Sales
Unsurprisingly, this year’s iteration of the intensely popular FIFA football game series went straight to number one in the UK sales charts for all formats. FIFA 11 was released on the 1st of this month, with several shops around Britain opening at midnight; I ventured out at night and bought a copy at 0.02am…
In the process of topping the charts, FIFA 11 managed to grab third on the list of the biggest videogame launches, sitting behind Grand Theft Auto IV and Modern Warfare 2 who comfortably occupy 2nd and 1st place respectively.
The 360 version of FIFA 11 was the format of choice for consumers, although PS3 sales from last year’s FIFA game saw a 23% increase in the first week of release.
The rest of the top five in the sales chart this week are all reasonably new releases, with F1 2010 edging out Dead Rising 2, Halo: Reach and Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. Reach is currently in fourth with Warriors of Rock moving up into fifth.
On an added note, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 saw a boost in sales, no doubt due to the release of Playstation Move and the interest in the Ryder Cup; it moves up to sixth place, despite having been on sale for several months.

I’m surprised that Prince of Persia is still in the top 10. I imagine Fifa will fall pretty fast once the next Pro Evo game comes out. At Eurogamer there seemed to be much more interested in PES than in Fifa.
@Ace Flibble: Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands has had a HUGE price drop in the last few weeks, which is almost certainly why it’s still in the charts. It’s £12 in supermarkets and under £20 pretty much anywhere.
Very similar price drop to Bioshock 2.
