Explosionade Mere Days Away from Mommy’s Best Games [Update]

It would be unprofessional for a person covering the games industry, or any other industry for that matter, to play favorites. However, I will say openly that I’m a fan of Mr. Nathan Fouts and his company, Mommy’s Best Games. He’s a former industry veteran who decided to go down the hard path of near solo indie game development. His released titles to date have met with success on Xbox Live Indie Games, but he’s not been able to nail down a publishing deal for his magnum opus, Grapple Buggy.

Rather than taking a step back, reevaluating his position or giving up the ghost, Nathan is going forward with both guns blazing, literally (well, not literally; figuratively, okay?)! Explosionade will be released on or near September 25th on XBLIG. The game promises lots of guns, gibs, boom boom and that unique art style that are a signature of MBG’s titles.

Update: We were just contacted by Nathan regarding the status of Explosionade. An edge case crash bug was found late during the peer review process.  It looks like we’ll still see it out relatively soon:

Pulled from review, the game has to wait at least 7 days before it can resubmit. We’re shooting for next weekend at this point.

The game sports a two player co-op mode, destructible environments and a score leaderboard. I’ll have to talk her into it, but my wife and I will sit down for couch co-op on release night. Sorry honey, no True Blood tonight!

Expect a review for Explosionade shortly following the release. I’ll be playing it and we’ll give it an honest review, I’ll just be biting my lip in expectation for any news on a release date for Grapple Buggy.

Hey when you’re married, being forced to watch a blood soaked love triangle play out is getting off light.
