Hothead Games Offers Free DLC With Purchase of DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue

Earlier Monday, Hothead Games announced that DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue would be available for download from PSN a day earlier than scheduled. Their claim of “available NOW” was misguided, however: the game didn’t actually get put up until well into the evening (I personally downloaded it around midnight, CST). The game launches as scheduled for XBox Live: September 22.

Also announced was the inclusion of free DLC for anyone who buys DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue during the first week of availability. The DLC consists of a bonus dungeon located in the North Pole — the Snowy Mountain Dungeon – which boasts an additional trophy for you trophy hunters (guilty). Also included with the DLC is a new sidekick, Sidekick Tankko, whom Hothead describes as “half-spider, half-human, all awesome”.

The first DeathSpank game featured local co-op only, and I personally have never played it with another player. Thongs of Virtue is doubtful to have an online co-op option, so the addition of the new sidekick seems superfluous. Whatever; it’s DeathSpank! And free!

Once again: first week only. No word on what the DLC will cost after the sale. As of this writing, the DLC is only available bundled with the game (retailing at $14.99).

Is this $15?

Edit: Yes.

I checked out the demo, I think I’ll be passing on this one. I loved the first Deathspank, but it’s just too soon. And too similar.

@Naughton:

You’re kind of right, and kind of wrong. It’s essentially the same, but there’s enough difference in there that I was happy…maybe I just love the humor in the game too much.

In any event, the review’s being written and submitted tonight.

Naughton Says:

@Jenny Rouse: I really liked the humor in the first one, it was funny enough for me to look over most of it’s faults(much like The Devil’s Playhouse), so I’m sure I’ll pick it up eventually. Hopefully in six months when I get around to it, Hothead hasn’t released three more sequels.
