APB’s Servers to be Shut Down
APB, Realtime Worlds’ foray into the Massively-Multiplayer game space is closing. Despite the mixed opinions about the game, it’s always sad to hear about an MMO shutting down.
The game has been in trouble since its launch, so I can’t deny that I didn’t see this coming. Realtime Worlds have been in all kinds of financial woes, as well as having massive layoffs and being unable to find a buyer for the game after they went bankrupt.
Talking to Develop, a spokesperson from the Corporate Rescue and Recovery firm that took over the failed company said they “are embarking on a marketing process to sell the APB game platform and intellectual property rights”.
I honestly haven’t been following the game after my whole experience at PAX East (pictured left, playing the game). Though bitterness and venom aside, I really wish the best for all of those laid off in this fiasco. I’d imagine that it’s very tough after having worked on a game for such a long time to only have it last for 3 months and then fold.

Shame. The whole RTW thing is a mess. I think it’s a case of the company having all this money, so not actually having a real vision. Just throw money at the wall and hope something sticks.
Shame for all the staff.
Best of luck to all those that got canned as RTW imploded, but AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
