Final Fantasy XIII Not Getting DLC
Even after it’s been released, we just can’t stop hearing about Final Fantasy XIII. Along with the still not dated Versus XIII that we’ve known of since around the same time that XIII proper was announced, there was also some sort of downloadable expansion that was suggested at. Well, it doesn’t look all that promising.
According to Kotaku, the DLC was hinted at before the Japanese release, giving them plenty of time to actually work on it, as well as having — allegedly — enough extra content to make a second game.
Despite all of that, Square Enix’s Motomu Toriyama said in an interview with a Japanese magazine that: “We had plans for DLC, but those plans disappeared. Apologies!” Hopefully Square’s reasoning for not actually carrying out this venture is sound, like getting Versus XIII out the door or some as of yet unannounced title that we’ll all be drooling over.
Personally, I put my copy of FF XIII on Goozex about a month ago. I would link you to the review here, but we never got one out (I think Gavin clawed his eyes out in Chapter 10 or so). So here are my haiku impressions of it. Maybe you can glean why I’m a bit indifferent about the game and the canceled DLC.

Well, I think we can survive without FFXIII DLC. It was one of the longest, most unbearable gaming experiences I’ve had in the last 2-3 years. Pretty game, just hated more or less every character in it, and didn’t care for the “pick your flavor of auto-battle” battle system.
In addition to hating the “pick your flavor” battle system, the fact that you could never reliably guess what fucking team you’d have from area to area was more than a little frustrating…
