Talibanned: Medal of Honor Blocked From GameStops on US Military Bases
As a non-US resident my first reaction is “They have GameStops on military bases?” I suppose they are known to be good simulators of killing and what not. My second reaction is “Wait, what?”
In an email to employees (and forwarded on to Kotaku) GameStop said that the company “has agreed out of respect for our past and present men and women in uniform [to] not carry Medal of Honor in any of our AAFES based stores”. AAFES, for those who don’t know, is the Army and Air Force Exchange Services.
According to the Commander of the AAFES, Commander Maj. Gen. Bruce Casella, they “regret any inconvenience this may cause authorized shoppers, but are optimistic that they will understand the sensitivity to the life and death scenarios this product presents as entertainment. As a military command with a retail mission, we serve a very unique customer base that has, or possibly will, witness combat in real life.”
If you were unlucky enough to pre-order a copy at one of the on-base stores, don’t worry. Your game will simply be delivered to the nearest off-base GameStop for you to pick up at your slightly less convenience.
Apparently the AAFES were prompted to call the ban due to “well-documented reports of depictions of Taliban fighters engaging American troops.”

HAHAHA its okay for use to shoot them in games but when they shoot back we have a problem HAHAHA!
Hows it go…George Washington was a Patriot and Freedom Fighter to American and a terrorist to Britain?
Well at least the Maj. Gen is okay with them getting it through other means.
I believe this topic can be best moderated by none other than… *drums rolling* The Second Greatest Modern Day Philosopher… *drums rolling*

Luneborg – That shouldn’t even be a consideration honestly cause when it boils down to it this is a freedom of speech argument here and one of censorship essentially and its horseshit. The “well this guy says its okay” argument should never come up cause it shouldn’t be and issue for anyone to dismiss.
I grow oh so tired of our hypocrisy and political correctness and righteousness. Our duplicitous nature is really quite appalling truth be told.
We could go on all day about the insensitive shit America does to people we’ve enslaved or conquered on a daily basis that we don’t give two shits about treading on them and all the sudden we want to be all fucking righteous?!
By this standard we should rename all the sports franchises that use terms like REDSKINS or BLACKHAWKS or other names stolen from Native Americans or used and derogatory slang against them but we won’t…
I’m surprised this is evening happening, let alone with the Taliban. DOes this mean we get to play as the Nazis eventually?
