THQ Develops Drawing Tablet for Wii
We can spend days on end ragging on the Wii and its various Voltron-esque attatchments. Everything from balance boards and guns to finishing rods and racing wheels have been developed for the system. All to entice core and casual gamers alike and create a higher level of game immersion. It looks like THQ has taken the next ridiculous leap in peripheral technology by making a working drawing tablet, compatible with a few soon-to-be-released titles.
From its description, the uDraw will do many of the things a regular tablet can do. It’s got a 4-by-6” drawing surface with a pressure-sensitive wired stylus. The tablet will come bundled with uDraw Studio, a basic Mario Paint-like program focused to help young and old artists alike refine their craft. uDraw Studio is described as an “expansive drawing, coloring, and art-based game”, meaning hopefully it can teach me once and for all how to stay in the lines in my Transformers coloring book. Drawings and other artistic endeavors can be saved and transported with an SD card, which is nice. Since this is a Wii peripheral, “tilt-and-roll” movement is standard and necessary to navigate menus apparently.
Along with uDraw Studio, the tablet will be released alongside the obvious Pictionary port, and a title called Dood’s Big Adventure ($29.99 each). You can pick up your Pico…sorry, uDraw this holiday season and begin drawing various inappropriate genitals with your Wii for $69.99. I wonder: are there any graphic artists out there who would use this device? In terms of price it’s a damn cheap tablet. I’m actually somewhat curious to see how it’ll perform.
