Neversoft Project Director Admits 2009 Played Host to Too Much Guitar Hero

DEAR GUITAR HERO, STOP BEING SHIT, LOVE CHRISIn an interview with Develop, Neversoft’s Project Director Brian Bright admitted that fierce competition to match Rock Band 2′s then burgeoning feature set caused the developer to lose their “souls” and “spark” attempting to “cater to everyone”. Suggesting an honesty found through hindsight (and perhaps a massive reduction of sales), Bright reflected on 2009′s slew of five colour releases and agreed that the onslaught of games “split the marketing team’s [and] studio’s focus”.

Bright followed that with this year’s Warriors of Rock, Neversoft have attempted to pull away from the copycat draw of Harmonix’s frankly mind-blowing Rock Band 3, and have instead focused on making sure that what could be the last Neversoft developed Guitar Hero retains its “own identity”. Perhaps at last there will be reason to buy into both franchises outside of the chance for an expanded, hot-swappable set-list.

Bright admits that there is most certainly a danger of the music genre becoming saturated, with an annual Guitar Hero release remaining “a given”. However, the admittance that 2009 played host to too many Guitar Hero titles perhaps hints at the studio and publisher’s being on a road to rehabilitation.

“yeah, we fucked up. But our bosses want us to carry on so we’re going to” is what I heard.
