Jade Raymond’s Expanded Role at Ubisoft Toronto

Poor Jade Raymond. She’s committed the two cardinal sins of the games industry. First off she’s a woman. Secondly, she’s an attractive woman. Well, despite all of the haters/lovers out there she’s taking on a large role at Ubisoft‘s new Toronto studio. According to an interview she did with Develop she will be overseeing the studio’s development from two “Triple A” titles currently in production to as many as five.

Ubisoft‘s Toronto location is only a year old, but already they have plans to staff up to 800 employees over the next ten years. The first title from this studio is an unannounced Splinter Cell game being worked on by the SC: Conviction team.

It was unclear exactly what Jade’s role is at the fledgling studio, but a press release from 2009 indicated she would “oversee day-to-day operations of the Toronto studio”. That sounds like an Executive Producer or Studio Manager, I suppose. After losing Patrice Désilets this year, Ubisoft is well advised to maintain good press for their high profile designers and producers.

Should either my daughters one day decide to get involved in the games industry I hope hostility and venomous misogyny have seeped out of the games community as a whole. Who am I kidding? They’d be better off finding acceptance in the construction industry.

I don’t understand why there actually is misogyny at all though.
