Sony Releases Update for PS3 HDD Install Woes
After downloading the 3.41 update to the PS3, users who then tried to swap out their hard drive for a larger drive were met with error messages and an endless loop of asking for the 3.41 update and then getting a “no applicable data” message.
Sony had previously said that the problem was nothing to do with their update, saying that their testing “does not suggest that this is a problem PlayStation(R) owners are likely to experience when upgrading the HDD with 3.41 update”. However, Sony recently posted on the Official PlayStation blog that they’ve released a new update with a “minor change” and the same version number.
The post advises PS3 owners to try again with the new update and see if that works. The forum members where the majority of the complaints came from are reporting general success, although it seems that some still cannot get the update to work, with the update stalling at a tantalisingly close 99%.
Sony advises anyone who can’t get it to work to call customer service and go on from there.
