PS3 Update Causing HDD Issues, Sony Says It’s Unrelated

After Sony released a minor update for the PS3, users who have tried to swap out the built-in hard drive with larger one have experienced problems. PS3 owners trying to install the new drive and the 3.41 update are getting a “no applicable data” error message after a certain amount of the install.

A 40 page forum post is the source of many of the complaints, with some stuck in an endless loop of installing the 3.41 update and then getting the “no applicable data” message.

Sony responded to the issue last night, saying that it wasn’t their fault. A message in The Examiner from Sony said: “The information available to our Consumer Services Department does not suggest that this is a problem PlayStation(R) owners are likely to experience when upgrading the HDD with 3.41 update. Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) strongly supports the quality of its products and backs them with full confidence.”

Sony have recommend trying the update with the old drive, but users on the forum are saying that this fix has been unsuccessful. Who knows what the fix is, or whose fault it is, but there’s still a fair few people on the forums who haven’t got working PS3s. It seems too coincidental that the update was installed and now people’s PS3s aren’t working, so we’ll see if Sony says any more on the subject.

The video below shows the issue.
