EVO 2K10: Impressions, Photos And Video From The Tournament

It smells like nerd in here.
The EVO fighting game championship took place at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas this weekend. As a Vegas native, I knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see the world’s best players go at it — and check out a playable build of Marvel Vs. Capcom 3.

MvC3 plays a lot like its predecessor, but the control scheme is pretty simplified. There’s actually a dedicated “launcher” button that will let you start air combos without having to remember specific attacks for each character. The artistic style they’re rolling with looks fantastic, especially once things start getting hectic on-screen. Deadpool’s fourth-wall-breaking level-3 super move needs to be seen to be believed.

I wasn’t around for any finals brackets besides Super Street Fighter 4, but that was the last event of the tournament so the hype in the room was at unimaginable levels. Each combatant put forth a fantastic showing of technical ability, but the tournament’s eventual Champion was no surprise. Daigo “The Beast” Umehara and his unstoppable Ryu took out Ricky Ortiz’s Rufus to claim First Place.

Of course, I had my camera with me at the event, and was able to grab a few pictures (along with a video of the final round of the Super Street Fighter 4 Finals). You’ll find all of it below — check it out!
