Blizzard Backs Down, Decides to Not Force Real Names in The Forums
Remember a couple of days ago when Blizzard announced that they were going to force their forum users to use their real name (via the Real ID system)? Well, they’ve come out and decided against it.
Undoubtedly fueled by a lot of negative criticism, as well as a site that showed how much information you could get about various Blizzard employees using only their first and last names, Blizzard have pulled the plug on their forums made up of real people. For now at least.
As I said in my post originally announcing the news, I wasn’t completely against the change. However, I’m not in the witness protection program, or a female on the Internet, so it doesn’t really affect me. Hopefully, we can all just forget this ever happened, and the gaming section of Reddit and every other social news site won’t be flooded with this shitstorm anymore so we can get back to actually reading about stuff that doesn’t fly away two seconds after it’s announced.
