Firefox Update Caters to FarmVille Users
Anyone who’s using Firefox (what are you doing?) will have noticed a recent update; 3.6.6 to be exact. Apparently, this update was primarily to fix a bug experienced by FarmVille users.
Firefox has a function called timeout, which give a “hung” or unresponsive plugin ten seconds to respond before shutting it down. Apparently this was implemented in the last update (3.6.4), but a recent bug report observes “that some users are unable to play Farmville, because Farmville hangs the browser long enough for out timeout to trigger and kill it.” The solution was to extend the timeout trigger to 30 seconds, a temporary fix until a better and more permanent solution can be found.
Though FarmVille is certainly not the only game affected, it is probably the game with the largest consumer base, as the browser-based game boasts over 60 million active monthly users.
And to think this all could have been prevented if people just went out and bought of the clearly superior Harvest Moon games.

This isn’t to “cater to farmville users”, it’s a bug in the bloody browser. Yes, it was farmville that caused people to notice it quickly, but the bug extends to -any- plugin that takes more than 10 seconds to initialise, which many do.
Though yes, people should have taken the hint and played harvest moon instead.

I’d say FF is still the superior browser for power users, even if Chrome is an OK alternative.
Best alt text ever, by the way.
Firefox>Chrome>IE
If you feel differently, that’s fine, but there’s no need to judge people for it. And, as someone pointed out, it was just that Farmville was what made people notice the problem.
*shrug* Firefox is just like dragging a refrigerator through the mud if you have too many plugins. Plus, I’ve had compatibility issues with all of my schools websites with Firefox, which is a pretty big chunk of where I surf.
When a browser doesn’t display a text box for your short-answer questions during an online test, you get a little bitter haha.
Well I guess at least two people use Firefox.
