E3 10: News Round-up Tuesday!

EEE

Instead of giving you a load of 100 word posts for E3, we thought it’d be easier to just list all the important news in one news-tacular post. For the big presentations, check out our round-ups: Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo

New Tony Hawk game announced, world baffled

Despite Tony Hawk: Ride being an utterly un-fun game and it not selling well, Activision has decided to disregard lessons learnt and are bring out another Tony Hawk game, this time called Shred. The game still uses the plastic skateboard device and will this time feature snowboarding as well as skating. The game is going for some cell-shaded graphics and is due out this fall. Great.

Microsoft says cheaper 360 slim is on the way

After unveiling the new 250GB Xbox 360 yesterday, Microsoft has said that it will be releasing a cheaper version of the black console, one that is more in line with current Arcade pricing. We’re not sure what details will be missing from the console (although at a guess I’m thinking smaller hard drive and maybe a lack of 802.11n Wifi?), but with a rough price of around £130 ($200), that might be worth the trade off for a smaller, and more importantly, quieter Xbox.

New Driver game has stupid gimmick

If you didn’t watch Ubisoft’s E3 presentation last night, you missed what has to be the most cringe-worthy show yet. In it however, they unveiled some of the new Driver: San Francisco, out around Christmas. It looks quite promising, with some cool visuals and the same characters and music as the first one, but towards the end they showed off a feature called “Shift”. In this mode, you can, sigh, float from car to car and take control of whichever one you fancy. Their explanation of this? You’re in a coma and you’re imagining the whole thing. Yeah, we know.

Xbox Live coming to nine new countries

While this isn’t much news for the majority of people, Xbox Live will now be available in nine new countries. If you live in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Russia and South Africa you can now pay lots of money to watch adverts on your dashboard. Win!

Partial DJ Hero 2 artist list revealed

Despite my personal hang-ups over the DJ Hero franchise, obviously, some one, somewhere really likes that game. Well, whoever that saddo is, they’ll be pleased to know that partial list of artists set to be in the game has been revealed. Some of the bigger names include: Gorillaz, the Jackson 5, The Prodigy and yes… Lady Gaga.

GoldenEye gets remake for the Wii

In what must be the biggest “fuck you” to Xbox and PS3 owners, Nintendo is releasing a remake of the N64 classic GoldenEye on the Wii. The game will feature the voice work of Daniel Craig, a graphical update and online multiplayer. While it’s awesome if you own a Wii, it’s a bit shit for the majority of actual gamers who won’t get to play one of the defining games.

If they’re “actual gamers,” they’ll just pull out an N64 and play Goldeneye. With Pierce Brosnan.

Ace Flibble Says:

Just want to say, this is how you do E3 coverage. Thank you, Nukezilla, for making E3 news tolerable for once. I had completely missed the mention of there being a cheaper Arcade-style 360 Slim coming thanks to the torrents of empty posts every other blog is flooding their front pages with. Now I know what’s what. God bless you, Nukezilla.

@Ace Flibble: Glad you like it Ace. :)
