Sony to Launch 3D PS3 Gaming on 10th June in Japan

Sony have confirmed that June 10th will be the date when the first 3D games will be available to download and play. You’ll need to live in Japan and own a 3D television of course, but Sony’s got you covered: their first 3D televisions go on sale in Japan the same day.

Are the four games available worth the $4000+ television price tag? Absolutely not, but a couple of the 3D launch games could make it seem like your investment was worthwhile. WipEout HD and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift are probably the two titles that will most impress, with the less enviable Pain and Star Strike also being given the 3D treatment in time for launch.

Motorstorm: Pacific Rift will have a 3D trial version: if you want to buy it, it will cost 1800 yen ($19.75) to unlock the full game.

The Wall Street Journal say that more 3D titles “are sure to follow soon since the conversion of existing titles is not that difficult” and quite astutely point out that this will be a way for Sony to “differentiate” from Microsoft and Nintendo.
