PSA: Portal Free Until May 24th

In a cutely-written post, Valve have announced the availability of the space-bending hit Portal for the limited-time-only cost of zero dollars and zero cents.

Portal is the sort of game nobody really has an excuse not to play ‘” unless you’ve got some debilitating illness that prevents the use of your fingers or you absolutely hate fun ‘” so it’s likely that you’ve already played through this title at least once. Regardless, if for some reason Portal isn’t on your computer already (owners of The Orange Box on Xbox 360 take note), you’ve got a golden opportunity to nab it for free. Also, with Steam now available for Mac, even the Apple-faithful out there can get in on the action.

The gettin’ will be good until May 24th, so get it during the time between now and then.

This was a triumph.

I’m making a note here: huge success.

Steam is getting slammed currently fyi. Anyone who hasn’t already got this game might want to wait a few hours or so. Aaaaand, it’s brilliant.

Query: I downloaded Portal for the PC, and it works fine. However, I’m going to be getting a Mac for college over the summer. Will I be able to re-download my copy of Portal onto my Mac without paying?

@Hawkeyed One: You sure will! Note, however, that due to differences in the OS’es it seems to run significantly better in Windows than it does in Mac OS X. You can, of course, use Boot Camp to install a Windows partition on your computer and just boot into that when you want to play, but that removes the convenience that Mac Steam provides. It’s a bit of a trade-off.

Hawkeyed One Says:

Ah, cool. Though I’m not worrying about quality of play, seeing as how my PC is from 2003 and has a 2.1 single core processor and 2 gigs of ram… and about 20 GB of space left… Blargh.
