Top Political Source, Xbox Live, Proclaims Clegg Election Winner

As the UK’s General Election is being held tomorrow, Microsoft has released the results of its Xbox Live election poll.

Over 400,000 people took part in the absolutely representative, proprietary-console-based poll, and Microsoft has announced that the Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has won the console vote, taking 30%, while Cameron took 20.7% and Gordon Brown managed 17.6%.

Microsoft’s Stephen McGill said that ‘œwe believe our results provide a telling barometer of political attitudes amongst 18′“30 year olds nationwide’, despite the fact that it ‘œis in no way intended to be statistically representative’. To be fair to Microsoft, having such a high proportion of the 416,882 voters place Clegg top probably does show some of the political habits of the 18-30 year old demographic, although you have to wonder how many under 18s voted. Note however, that 31.3% of ‘œvoters’ said they were unsure which party to vote for on Thursday.

If nothing else, it shows some enthusiasm for democracy in a typically apathetic age group, so perhaps Dimbleby will be watching the Xbox Live swingometer tomorrow night?

They’re spinning. The other category wasn’t “undecided about the main parties” but “other” which (judging by both what passes for political debate on other gaming forums and the average match of COD4) means “the BNP”. Oh Xbots.

That said, we all know that everyone that clicked that option was under 18.

What Threetem said.
I voted for other not because I was undecided, but because none of the three main parties are any better than each other. Although I find the results interesting, I think the main thing it proves is how disillusioned people (in this case live subscribers) are with mainstream politics.
Oh, and by other I certainly don’t mean the BNP either.
