Piracy Complete With Added Waggle as Sid Meier Heads to Wii

Sid Meier’s Pirates!* is a good game. However, as it stands, the title has been released and re-released with wild abandon, largely unchanged in content, for close to 25 years. Nintendo, currently just about the only hardware line yet to graced by Meier’s swashbuckling antics, will soon be able to join in with the fencing, canon battles and treasure hunts that console gamers have been enjoying for so long, with a largely unaltered port (though replete with added gestural bullshit and minigames) of 2004′s home console edition to hit soon.

Confusingly, the release comes courtesy of 2K China, rather than Meier’s own Firaxis Games. However, Ol’ Sid is still generically confident that “Wii fans will enjoy the timeless adventure of being a pirate captain on the high seas as much as all of our other fans have!” regardless of hands-on developmental involvement.

Sid Meier’s Pirates! is currently without a release date, although those eager to get a “sneak peak” of what to expect can find PSP and Xbox copies sheathed in fetching purple “sleeve lost” case inserts in GAME bargain bins country-wide.
