Gran Turismo 5 Still 90% Complete Says Creator
If Gran Turismo 5 and the Sistine Chapel had been started at the same time, then Michelangelo would currently be down at the chiropractors stinking of turps and trying to get the image of impeccably highlighted penises out of his head. At the same time, GT boss Kazunori Yamauchi would still be in the office adding rims and paint options and cars not even the most ardent mid-80s Ford Coupe collector would miss.
Yamauchi told Inside Line that his piece de resistance has progressed from 90% completion in January to its current state of… 90% complete. As a further kick in the grill for the few remaining fans who have burnt out their copies of Prologue, he’s admitted that ‘œnot everything he had hoped for will be included in the game’. It’s not specified what this omission might be, but fans will be hoping it doesn’t include any of the cutting edge features that GT5 was hoping to break new ground with, like night time racing, destructible cars or multiplayer.
Of course, I jest. I did get deeply into Gran Turismo 3 for a while when I was about 12; a short romance that ended tragically and violently as my friend idly saved over my progress with an empty profile while we were chatting, losing the many endurance races we’d spent hours of our fragile youth on.
It’s obvious that GT 5 is a labour of love for those creating the game, but many of us were hoping to play it sometime before we die. You’ve got to wonder though, will spending all this extra time equate to a relative amount of accolades at the end of it all? Perhaps it’s just time for thorough quality testing – Lord knows it’s a game that needs to be right first time, considering the potential pedantry of the target market.
