Overdue Game Room Additions “Delayed Until Further Notice”

Over a month since Game Room‘s shambolic release, Microsoft have broken promises once again, with the first batch of additional titles originally set for release today including Pitfall, Rack ‘Em Up and Super Breakout absent. An apology, as with all breaking news / marriage proposals / obituaries / crime confessions, was offered via Twitter, with Microsoft’s Daniel Maher posting the succinct “The latest batch of Game Room content has also been delayed until further notice – I’ll let you know once a new date is confirmed.”

Whether or not the unexpected delay is in any way tied to developer Krome’s recent lay-offs is, of course, currently undisclosed, though it seems a startling coincidence that both events happened within a week of one another. Although support for Game Room has been divided since announcement, here’s hoping that whichever niggles are preventing the team from proceeding toward their startling target of 1,000 downloadable titles within three years are ironed out soon, before consumer interest wanes any further than it already has.

I liked the idea, and the presentation behind it, but there is no way I am willing to pay to play Jungler.

That pretty much goes for the entire Atari 2600 & Intellivision liabraries. They need to mine the late 80s and early 90s. No titles circa 1983.

There are some 2600/VCS titles that I’d play $3 to play, but none of the currently available ones. Jr. Pac-Man, Realsports Boxing and the delayed Pitfall would be three of them.
