Clegg Says He’ll Repeal Digital Economy Bill if Elected
After his triumphant win at the Leader’s Debates last night, the Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has said that if his party gets into power, he will repeal the Digital Economy bill that was rushed through last week.
The bill, when put into law, could enable copyright holders who obtain a court ruling to shut off people’s internet connections for suspected copyright infringement.
Clegg said that ‘œit was far too heavily weighted in favour of the big corporations and those who are worried about too much information becoming available’ and that ‘œit badly needed more debate and amendment’. The bill was passed with just two hours of debate in the Commons, with very few MPs actually in attendance. Concerns were raised that under the law sites that were ‘œlikely to be used’ in copyright theft would face potential problems. This led to fears that YouTube could be taken down because of its potential copyright violations.
Clegg continued to say that the LibDems ‘œare extremely worried that it will now lead to completely innocent people having their internet connections cut off’ and that ‘œit badly needs to be repealed, and the issues revisited.’

My vote is sealed
The more I see of Nick Clegg, the more I like him.
He irritated me a little on the debates, but yes, voting Lib Dem seems like less of a waste now.
Up until just the other night, Clegg has been a walking joke. Now it seems he’s the only one anyone is even slightly in support of. Can’t blame ‘em, the bill should never have been passed in the first place and if he’ll do something about it, great.
Objection!
I have to say, he seemed like a total douche during the debate the other night. However, this sways me. A very, very little. Anything but David Cameron, I suppose.
