Bizarre: No Plans For Geometry Wars 3

In conversation with Kotaku, Bizarre Creations’ Gareth Wilson admitted that “right now we don’t have any plans for Geometry Wars 3 or anything”. The series, to date, has been one of Xbox Live Arcade’s resounding success stories, the original 400 points wireframe shooter arguably selling comparatively better than any of the console’s retail launch titles and Geometry Wars 2 remaining high in Marketplace ranking some two years after its release.

Although Wilson offered a glimmer of hope, suggesting “that doesn’t mean that at some point Stephen [Cakebread, Geometry Wars designer] won’t have a genius moment and will start working on it”, the overall tone of Wilson’s interview suggests that at present, the franchise is taking a breather so the team can concentrate on other projects.

While gamers may feel disappointed, I can only express happiness that despite a successful format, Bizarre aren’t content to run the series into the ground. Could much really be added to 2008′s mega hit? Refined to bleeding edge, Geometry Wars 2 still stands as the pinnacle for twin stick shooters on Microsoft’s service, something I fear may change if the team were to force a limping sequel (like the iffy DS and Wii conversions, Galaxies) at the demand of the slavering public.

I went and checked the date of the Kotaku post hoping… just hoping.

@wardrox: If that were the case, it’d be just about the dullest April Fools of all time.
