NGCast Special: PAXEast ’10

Myself, Chelsea, Wex and Dan gathered around the microphones for a very special NGCast recorded live at PAX East here in cold, oh so cold, Boston. Joining us for a quick chat is none other than Mommy’s Best Games‘ Nathan Fouts!
On this special episode we talk about:
- PAX East!
- Is Hanna Montana in Split Second?
- Adam Sessler used the bathroom
- APB gave us the shaft, twice
- Print is Dead
You really should check it out. Also, if you’re wondering why we are talking about phoning-in things that never appeared on site, we had no idea at the time they weren’t getting through.
For more PAX stuff keep checking back on the site over the next few days. Enjoy!

Thoughts:
1. Nvidia’s set up sounds like Quakecon every year. Whore the new card as the best thing evar + whatever gimmicky crap they’re working on for stockholder reasons.
2. Write an article about APB being balls salad. That’ll show ‘em!
3. Postal 2 was great. Also, I remember seeing someone (I think GMR) give it a 0 because the reviewer didn’t like that you kicked a dog and the kitten thing. Really? That was the sticking point?
4.As far as kicking little kids off, at PAX Seattle last year we kicked some bloggers off because one of us pointed out that he was there with NBC. He didn’t tell them up front that it’s the Oklahoma City NBC affiliate, but they were still happy to have something they know tens of thousands will see.
5. I need pics of fat, pony tail Spy.
6. Speaking of business cards, I NEED John Romero’s http://img188.yfrog.com/i/l3oh.jpg/
7. It’s BONK that Hudson needs to revive. Bonk. Great platformer.
8. As a journalism student I get a talk on the death of print every time there is a guest speaker at the school (unless they’re from broadcast, then they tell you to know everything because the industry is cutting positions. Fun times).
9. My favorite Sessler story: Some friends at Quakecon circa ’03 saw him in the VIP bar, smoke and drink in hand, and described him as Krusty the Klown when the camera’s go off. Just burnt out looking and mad at the world.
10. One year at Quakecon the group saw one of the girls after the show. At her shift at Hooters.
@wuerflein: New NG business card design settled on.
air quotes never get old on an audio show. lol
These con podcasts are always my favorites; I love hearing the shenanigans you guys get into at pax. I got back from a food expo about a week ago, so I was mentally comparing it to how you guys were describing it over the course of the podcast. Sounds like it was a great time; I’d like to make it out to one of those at some point.
Hey guys. Just to let you know, if you’re annoyed by the clicks and hisses, use Audacity to remove them. Open the file, select all te audio, click effects, click removal, and wait a minute. All done, no more clicks and hisses.
@nahsuda04: good advice, and we normally do. This NGCast however had some time constraints (it was edited at around 1am Saturday night) so I didn’t pass it through Audacity for a clean. Importing the mp3, cleaning then saving it back for editing in Cubase takes annoyingly long when using my underpowered laptop. I also figured as there was a bit of background noise, most of the hiss would be covered up.
As something of an audiophile we are slowly upgrading each of the components of the NGCast as we go, but the mobile recording stuff (for when we’re not in our regular spots) is still a touch on the cheap side.
@wardrox: Oh sweet, a reply! Well thanks Wardrox cause your editing usually is spot on, just that this last one was a bit clicky. Otherwise a good show, just recently started downloading them all. Just wanted to say it is a bit difficult to leave an iTunes review because you need an account with a valid credit card. But anyway thanks for the show, keep em coming.
