Sony: Higher Price of PSPgo “Confused” Customers, It’s All Piracy’s Fault
The PSPgo hasn’t had the best reception since its launch and doesn’t have many fans here at Negative Gamer either. Sony’s PR executive Rob Dyer has come out and agreed with the majority of the gaming press and said that ‘œI think the higher price point didn’t help [the] matter’ of consumer confusion about the PSPgo.
Speaking with Industry Gamers, Dyer said that Sony will be ‘œgoing back and re-communicating’ what the PSPgo is, with a move to ‘œbetter educate and inform the consumer’, who are obviously the problem, right? Dyer also spoke about the issue of piracy, which he says is the ‘œbiggest problem’ that faces the PSPgo. So it’s not the price, the lack of physical media or the ugly design; it’s the stupid consumer and piracy.
“Publishers, when they put out good games, are not getting the same sales results that they got a few years back’ said Dyer. He continued: ‘œWe wanted to find a way to give the consumers what they want, so if they didn’t want to go to a retailer they could stay at home and download [games and content]. And we were hoping really to eliminate the piracy issue.”
The issue obviously hasn’t been fixed then, but does it not seem a little strange to suggest that piracy is the main factor hurting the PSPgo’s sales? It hasn’t sold well in the US, and games sales in Japan show the PSP-3000 flying ahead of the PSPgo, suggesting the console’s hardware rather than software is the issue. Is the problem piracy, or just a crappy handheld? Sony is determined to keep its PSPgo dreams alive, and will even blame you for not understanding its beauty. You idiot.

Sooo…the system is still going to be over priced, the games are still going to be overpriced, and they are still going to put a thumb in my eye by saying no to my stack of UMDs, but they just need to explain it to me better?
Congrats to Sony on a bold step into a digital distribution only system, and completely ruining it every step of the way.
Sorry, Sony? What’s that? I can’t hear you over the sound of me ripping the isos from my games (which, for the record, I have bought legitimately, no thanks to Atlus, and as such, I can pretty much do as I please) and plying them off my card on my Homebrewed PSP-phat and playing them at improved loads with all the stupid videos removed (in Sega Mega Collection for example)
Seriously, the only time I will even think of the go is when homebrew is an available option.
