Beta Keys For StarCraft 2 Selling For 400 Dollars
People will go to extraordinary lengths to be the first to play a video game.
Others will take advantage of this. eBay houses many of these legal extortionists who deem it acceptable to charge excessive amounts of money for items that aren’t available elsewhere – I’m amazed that eBay allow this kind of thing to happen.
Kotaku reported about a recent situation where those lucky enough to get a hold of beta keys for Activision-Blizzard’s highly RTS game StarCraft II are charging obscene amounts for them on eBay. These beta keys seem to be the most coveted video game products on the internet at the moment – see for yourself just how much they are going for. The highest buy-it-now price I have found is a ridiculous $400 (£258).
Even if this is your most anticipated game ever, please don’t put that kind of money down for a beta, never mind the full game.
With 400 dollars, you could buy all of the AAA titles already released this year, a few that have yet to be released, and still have enough left to pick up the full version of StarCraft 2 whenever it releases.
That being said, its not as wasteful as buying an iPad.

Why? eBay make their money, the sellers make their money, and lets be honest, anyone dumb enough to pay $400 for a beta key deserves to.
The highest buy it now price may be $400 but is anyone really paying that much? PS3′s were on Ebay with a buy it now price of $50,000 on launch day.
But stupid people aside the beta is pretty awesome I can’t wait for the final product so I can play the singleplayer.
I was awfully close to actually paying $350 on an eBay auction for a key..
Luckily some blog my friend linked me to on Facebook was giving out some invites. I thought it’d just be another scam, but I got an invite mailed to me in a couple of hours. Go figure…
