Minor Gripes With Microsoft’s Lack of Shame When it Comes to BioShock 2

I admit, this is probably not a big deal and almost certainly not something a lot of people have a problem with. However, it is bothering me and has been since I found it. Microsoft seem to have no shame in whoring for all they are worth. My recent purchase of the BioShock 2 Special Edition has only reinforced this for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, Microsoft are charging for the Xbox 360 theme whilst the Playstation theme is totally free. I understand they are different things made for different systems, but is the Microsoft version really that superior? Perhaps this falls into the “Microsoft demand developers charge for everything, developers have no spine” category of DLC. From my perspective, it gives a very clear message.

As an aside, no free avatar awards? Not even a t-shirt (like the ones you’re asking money for)? If Valve can get you free avatar stuff for Left 4 Dead 2, why can’t 2K? I admit the “I want free stuff” complaint makes me a touch spoiled, but all the avatar crap is one of my longer-running gripes. On that topic, why can’t you buy (see: waste your money on) a whole Big Daddy suit for your avatar? Why do you have to buy the body and the helmet separately, both for extortionate costs?

My second reason is one I genuinely think detracts from the experience, even if for some very slightly. The Special Edition that costs $100 comes with an advert for Xbox Live in the box if you get the 360 version. As for the Playstation version? No adverts, just pure, unfiltered BioShock bliss. I do know it’s a very small point and one most people will overlook, but when I’m paying so much money for an extremely well put together piece of memorabilia, the very last thing I want is a damn advert poking out the box. Not least a worthless advert simply telling me about the overpriced crappy accessories Microsoft like to sell.

Please tell me I’m not the only one annoyed by this kind of stuff?

Open box, remove advert, place in bin.

No you’re not the only one who feels like that, all of the Microsoft fanboys I know are fed up of the exploitive ways of Microsoft. I love the Xbox 360 and all of its great games, but with each game, Microsoft just goes overboard.

I ended up getting the PS3 version because my free Gold offer ended and I’m just not going to spend $70 CAD on Xbox Live Gold when I’ve got a PS3 as well.

Profit is one thing, the level of money grubbing Microsoft works at is a deal breaker for me.

I feel the same way, sometimes I just don’t get why they don’t get it! it’s like a slap in the face, or even a fart in the face… its disrespectful and rude. I guess if they starting loosing customers they’ll begin to understand, but something inside me says they won’t. ha, they might even do it more if they start to loose customers, its sad really.

btw I got the PS3 special edition Bioshock 2 it is classy

@ryuken:

Let’s face it, it sucks and there’s nothing that we can do. Microsoft will probably never lose customers because they’re so popular. Even if someone started a campaign to boycott everything to do with Microsoft that wouldn’t work because they’d end up getting sued like that Bruce Everiss guy.
