BioShock 2 Bugs Abound, No Widescreen And Stuck Dramatic Music

There are a lot of people finding technical problems with BioShock 2. The 2K forums are understandably getting overwhelmed. I’ve experienced first hand at least one of the major errors myself. As well as the standard PC related errors, texture pop-in (as found in the original) and random physics going crazy, there’s a couple of big ones.

The game is not in widescreen. What you see when looking at the widescreen view is actually a 4:3 view, just cropped. This is exactly the same problem the first game had, and was patched for. With around 40% of PC users playing on a widescreen display and being used to, well, real widescreen, this has understandably left a few feeling miffed. Quite how it was overlooked when it was such a big deal with the first game I can’t even begin to fathom. Thankfully, a patch is on the way.

Another bug, as experienced by myself whilst Chelsea was playing the 360 version, is more of an insanity-creating audio glitch. During high-drama incidents such as your fight against the Big Sister there’s some equally high-drama screeching violin music to accompany the action. If you happen to save whilst this music is playing, the music will continue to play until you have completed the level (which may be quite a long time later). Exiting the game, rebooting the console and screaming “why won’t it stop!?” were all tested ways to stop it, and none worked.

Expect more BioShock 2 bug reports over the next few days.

Threetem Says:

Ah-ha, this happened to me even though I hadn’t saved during the music. During a long actionless section the screeching violins totally ruined the mood, especially since the loop is only about a minute long :(

Great game though, as long as you turn the bloody Vita-chambers off

I have encountered these myself along with other ones like the bid daddy getting stuck on some fallen structure then starting to levitate high then go down again and just stays still, its an easy kill for me but its still a bug, also another bug I found is that I could pick up the shotgun ammo up until I got the shotgun it makes sense but my wife was playing and she was able to get them before she got the actual weapon, and the last one I have encountered so far is the doors that require a number code already have the code next to were you put in the numbers its kinda weird cause I don’t remember getting any code for that specific door and it also happen to my wife.

I keep getting this bug where I have this red object blocking 80% of the screen, I don’t know what it is. It keeps happening after the part where the building gets flooded. I’ve tried opening up old saves about 3 times now. if i use the drill dash, it clears my view just for a second.

John Wheeler Says:

@katherine: I have experienced this problem. combined with another right before the flooding. Right after beating the preacher Sam, my little sister got stuck above teh vita chamber, I could hear her crying, yet could never find her. I decided to abandon the achievement to save all little sisters. After the flood my camera was obstructed by a red inside of my own head blocking the screen. Reset system cache clear and new save would not fix them> I quit and sent my game rental back in the mail. This game is to buggy to even complete it properly. 2K needs to be punished for an inferior product.
