New Pokémon Game Announced, Prepare For Nothing New or Innovative
Oh Pokémon, you were once so unique and interesting. It was you who taught me the value of character progression and instilled in me a love for videogames that exists today. The first game I ever owned was Pokémon Blue, you convinced me to catch them all. And then you did it again, and again, and again until I was so sickened at the thought of catching another Pokémon that I instantly scowled at anything even remotely related to the Pokémon universe. Why is it that Nintendo insists on taking brilliant ideas and replicating them until they are nothing but a pile of uninspired slag? Because it makes sense from a business perspective. And just like the endless iterations of shovel-ware and ridiculous peripherals that Nintendo is so determined to dump on the masses, another Pokémon game is scheduled for release in 2010.
Just what can we expect from this new Pokémon game? Oh just the usual: Leave your Mom forever after a goodbye consisting of a two minute discussion and a hug, pick one of three starter Pokémon, then repeat the same process of catching new Pokémon and leveling them for 60 hours. What about new abilities or Pokémon, you ask? Don’t be silly, Game Freak will just re-skin the original 150 Pokémon, and put the word “Hyper” or “Ancient” in front of all the old abilities to make new ones.
Is it too much to ask for a new IP from Game Freak? They’ve managed to develop games so addicting I often question why the cigarette industry is seen as a hazard to children. Hell, I know the evolutionary trees of Pokémon better than my times tables, and this is exactly why I expect better from Game Freak. They have such potential to create another industry standard like Pokémon, but they do nothing but disappoint me every time they announce the same game with a different color and precious metal. Please Game Freak, try something new. I want to fall in love with another one of your creations, but these replicas are nothing but empty shells of a game I once held dear. My Pokédex has been closed for some time, and no amount of knock-offs or reproductions will ever convince me to open it again.

Pokémon Emerald was best.
I caught them all on Pokémon Red only.
Pokémon Crystal was my favourite. Emerald, Ruby & Diamond were great too.
Ah, to hell with it, they were all great games. As much as I want a new IP that’s as addictive as Pokémon for the handheld consoles, I’m happy to keep playing them if they follow the same working formula.
I’ll take a new Pokemon game. This is the first new Pokemon game in 4 years. Everything else were just remakes.
Also everyone should go play Drill Dozer.
