Mass Effect 2 “Exclusive” DLC Offered on Xbox.com, For Free

Most everyone agrees that pre-order exclusives have crossed the line from mildly frustrating to downright absurd. Case in point: There are at least 3 unique DLC packs “exclusive” to pre-orders and the Collector’s Edition of Mass Effect 2. To make matters worse, these are not available (for any price) all in one mega-bundle. Pre-ordering from most retailers will nab you the Inferno armor, while the Terminus armor and black hole gun is exclusive to GameStop pre-orders. Finally, the CE of the game offers The Collector’s Armor and rifle (there’s irony in that at least, I suppose).

While none of the above is news, the sudden availability of all forms of unique (and some unannounced) DLC was offered for a limited time (see: someone lost their job over this one) on Xbox.com at 3am (Pacific Standard Time) last night. In an hour or two someone at Microsoft became wise to the slip up, but not before thousands of happy Mass Effect fans got their grubby nerd mitts on some DLC. Sadly, I was sleeping during its availability; a mistake I will never again make.

At this point it would be refreshing for Bioware to announce the official release schedule for this DLC, seeing that the pre-order window has closed. I want to know just how long I’ll have to wait to fire my own Personal Hadron Collider…wait a minute, that’s not what I meant. Oh, never mind. Read past the break for the full list (spoilers?).

Collectors’ Weapon and Armor – Collector’s Edition (ha!)
Terminus Weapon and Armor – GameStop Pre-Order
Inferno Armor – Amazon.com, EA Store (online), etc.
Sentry Interface -???
Umbra Visor -???
M-29 Incisor Sniper Rifle -???
Blood Dragon Armor – Packaged with all new copies of Dragon Age: Origins
Recon Hood -???
Normandy Crash Site -???

Naughton Says:

I have an extra Gamespot code, if you want it.

But there aren’t breaks any more?

Naughton Says:

Whoops, I meant GameStop.

ouched Says:

I’d@Naughton: Could I have have it? email @ shawnbolander@gmail.com or message to my live tag @ Ultor84

ouched Says:

Also, one of those might be the bonus for beating and registering Mass Effect Galaxy, the 2 dollar iPhone game.

wardrox Says:

When I play a game I want to play the whole thing. I don;t want to know that the makers added other stuff that I can’t get. This is absurd.

player66 Says:

It’s indicative of a marketing machine gone horribly wrong. Hopefully the core game feels complete without all of this content.

Glassninja Says:

This disgusting trend is probably my biggest pet peeve about games today. Admittedly when it’s just an extra gun or skin or whatever it isn’t as bad as if its actual game content, but the idea that you have to preorder something from a certain vendor to get the “full game” (and even then not necessarily, a la ME2) just sickens me. Not only that, but if people keep playing along it’ll set a precedent that could encourage the industry to do this on an even larger scale, which is terrifying.

wardrox Says:

@Glassninja: For me my biggest trouble is that it’s only going to get worse. BioWare, for example, aren’t going to rake in a load of money and go “oh, well I guess this is enough money”. They’ll just keep going further and further until it just collapses.

Naughton Says:

As far as ME2 goes, all the preorder/collectors DLC is just extra shit that in no way impacts the game. No matter which version of the game you get, or where you get it from, you’re getting a full-ass game. Missing out on a few pieces of novelty armor doesn’t affect that.

ouched Says:

It certainly isn’t a direction I’d like to see, slowly being pulled toward being nickeled and dimed to death for a complete game, though I guess I can hope that all this stuff is purely aesthetic and not game breaking gear.

dominico99 Says:

@Naughton:

i have collectors armor code to trade for terminus armor

Naughton Says:

@dominico99: I’m good, I got it for free right before they took it down on Monday morning.

@ouched: The extra stuff I have(Terminus armor, Black hole gun, Collector’s armor/rifle, and the Blood Dragon armor), aren’t anything close to game-breaking. I do wish you could toggle the helmets off on the DLC armor though.

ouched Says:

@Naughton: You can’t toggle the helmet? Denied. I usually had Shepard helmetless in ME 1.

Naughton Says:

@ouched: You can toggle the helmet on everything I’ve found in-game, just not the DLC armor.

Side note: Slowest work day ever.

Dyne Enigma Says:

Does anyone have an extra Collector’s armor code i can have? I ended up wasting mine because I changed the email for my gamer tag a long time ago and i thought EA would change the gamer tag-email association but instead I went to download my Collector’s armor on my current email and it didn’t tell me it was registered until AFTER I used the code. :( So I wasted my Collector’s code. Atleast i found out that i had to use my old email before i tried any others.

James Says:

anybody here got inferno armor Ill trade it for terminus gear.

Matt Says:

does anyone have an extra armor code please email me at egsbigz@gmail.com

The schnook Says:

@Naughton: Can i have it?

Josh Says:

does anyone have any codes they wouldnt mind giving me, i only have the inferno. i want terminus and collectors armor.

Ian Says:

does anyone have terminus armor or collector armor that they wouldnt find giving me?

Ian Says:

wouldnt mind giving me. would mean alot.

thanks alot

Devon Says:

@Naughton: hey i would like the code if you want to send it my way
