Not only do they spell “videogame” as one word but the House of Lords (a branch of the UK parliament) has backed calls for a Tax break for the UK gaming industry. In a report from the House of Lords Communications Committee, recognition that tax breaks would be a good thing for the country as a whole was agreed.
Citing Tiga’s calls for tax breaks, the report states that they “recommend that the Government consider providing tax incentives for videogames production.” Whilst that doesn’t read particularity dramatic, it does represent a large step in progress. There is now real government support for the industry.
Sadly, with both major parties concentrating on PR rather than things that matter into the run up to this year’s election, the backing of the House of Lords may still not be enough to stir actual change just yet.
