PSN To Release Reality Show “The Tester”, No One To Watch
Finally. Someone decided to come along and fill the hole that WCG Ultimate Gamer left. Yes folks, we’re getting yet another tired, bland reality show about videogames. On the Playstation Network, no less.
The Tester is a reality show looking to find the next Playstation game tester. The Playstation Blog describes the exciting contestants as 22-to-36-year-olds “from all walks of life ‘“ from a student, to a paramedic, to a used car salesman…united in the passion needed to be the next PlayStation game tester”. My morning bran flakes sound more interesting than this show.
The show, “to be by hosted Meredith Molinari, model and host of multiple online music shows” (that’s really what it says), is produced by 51 Minds, the geniuses behind Rock of Love and The Surreal Life. Whee.
The delightful idea behind The Tester is vaguely described in the post, but expect gamers living together and going on about how great they are at gaming. Every week, they will be put up to challenges having nothing to do with videogame testing. The contestants will play nothing but PS3 and PSP games, since Sony runs the show and their games are the only ones that matter. Finally, you can expect boring personalities and low, low ratings for the show as a whole.
Two things to note: first, the series has not been described as free. As of now, there is no word on whether the show will be a free download, or if it will cost money per episode. If they cost anything, we will have a new example of how Sony constantly shoots themselves in the foot. Secondly, see that girl with the black hair in the upper-left corner of the header image? That’s Ciji. You might know her from WCG Ultimate Gamer, when she was a contestant.

“Sup, my name is Ciji, and I have been a gamer since Guitar Hero II!”
Why…. just why ….. T___T
@wardrox: Maybe because the gaming world is running dangerously low on primadonnas?
There is no hole for it to fill unforuntately. According to Swoozie, the guy that won WCG Ultimate Gamer last year, there will be a second season and they’re holding auditions very soon. That makes me a very sad panda.
Huh… one or two of those people actually have decent jobs. Don’t they realize that game testers are the shittiest of the shit jobs in the gaming world? I mean, they’re even worse than being an independent gaming blogger. ;)
If I can get this outside of the PSN (no PS Triples) I’ll check it out, but given that everything will be 100% Sony branded or Sony related (just look at their profiles) I’m expecting very little.
