God Of War III To Introduce New Feature, a Short Campaign. Who’d A Thunk It?

John Hight, the Studio Director of Sony Santa Monica, has revealed that those hoping to spend a long amount of time with current-gen Kratos are in for something of a disappointment.

In the realm of third-person action games few franchises have been able to combine accessibility, gorgeous graphics, and visceral thrills the way that the God Of War series has done.  Many could argue that the original God Of War is one the greatest games to have graced the PS2.  With a surly, almost hateful protagonist, whose potential for violence was matched only by his libido, this franchise has achieved many things.

It helped advance the Playstation brand, it made shamelessly altering Greek mythology acceptable, and most importantly it convinced many idiots all over the world that quick time events(QTE) were a viable game mechanic and an effective way to advance a story.  Apparently if you put tits and the insinuation of sex into a game, pimply pre-teens will spend hours pressing a triangle button when the screen tells them to, and they will think that this is awesome.

While these games have always provided the player with some of the best that the genre has to offer, it has come at the expense of game length.  Once players started mastering the QTEs, they started to realize that these games are not particularly long.  In fact they’re pretty darn short.  As we approach the March 16, release date for God Of War III, news is starting to leak out about one of the most anticipated games of 2010.

According to Industry Gamers, Hight has stated that the third instalment in this franchise will exceed, wait for it, ten hours.  Yes, for the anywhere from $60-$70 fans will pay for God Of War III, they will be rewarded with a whopping ten whole hours of gameplay.  Can you say, rental?

Hmm, ten hours. That seems a little too wild and crazy for 60 dollars. You’d think they were trying to reinvent the wheel or something.

Philbart999 Says:

lol, I forgot to include even Chains Of Olympus, which took me less than three hours on the PSP.

ParaParaKing Says:

Fun fact: God of War 1 and 2 were both shorter than 10 hours.

NoZart Says:

who cares anyway these days. I am glad for shorter campaigns – ideally they would be 5-8 hrs. With so many games out there i couldnt keep up playing through all the games and maintain a healthy life.

It’s true that QTE’s are normally a bit cack, but the GOW series has by far the least detestable events of any game since maybe Farenheit/Indigo Prophecy
