Ron Jeremy Says Something About Videogames, Bloggers Freak Out
Normally when we hear about porn and videogames in the same sentence, there’s a religious loudmouth behind it. The last I checked, Ron Jeremy is the furthest thing from a Christian zealot you can get. But “the Hedgehog” has decided to speak out, in a very small way, against videogames in favor of pornography. This naturally has some gaming blogs hot and bothered.
Alongside CES, Las Vegas is hosting the AVN Awards, the porn equivalent of the Oscars. This gives Jeremy time to debate with anti-porn activist Craig Gross about the internet and pornography in the digital age. During the debate, Jeremy got talking about how the porn industry doesn’t try to pander to kids. “We don’t want kids to watch porn,” Jeremy said through a ridiculous amount of mustache.
He then used this time to say that even if kids are exposed to porn, it’s not as bad as exposing them to videogames (*GASP*). Jeremy, who looks suspiciously similar to gaming icon Mario, explained that “[studies] found that violent videogames are much bigger a negative influence on kids [than porn].” Which means, of course, the videogame blogs of the world have to jump on the story.
Over at VG247, Stephany Nunnley seemed a bit outraged, saying sarcastically “sure thing, Ron. Games are much worse than seeing double penetration, urination films, or even two girls sharing a cup of ‘chocolate ice cream’. No words.” No words? So not only do you report on a story like this, but you don’t feel that you need to decry/defend what he said?
I can see Ron’s need to defend himself, as he is in a debate about his livelihood. I can also see how it’s hypocritical; videogaming is an industry which Ron himself enjoys being a part of, as seen here, here, here, and in the header image. What is worth talking about here? Jeremy spoke a single sentence against games, and because of this we should jump on him for it?
Kreyg over at Hot Blodded Gaming, while having at least an opinion on the matter, continued to blow the whole thing out of proportion: “Jeremy made it clear during the debate that he felt video games were worse for children than porn.” He actually made nothing clear. He mentioned one study that he didn’t even expound on. That’s it. Low-blow it may be, I don’t find it at all shocking. Apparently some of the commenters over at The ‘Tak do.
Commenter LucacReis, upon hearing the news, “just lost a big chunk of respect [for Jeremy] from me and lots of other people.” And Lakeitel at Hot Blooded Gamer eloquently says “Ron Jeremy is just a douche who is trying to keep his job and make it seem like he’s not such a bad person.” Really? He happened to take the low road, at an event that has videogame elements to it, to try and aid his argument. That’s it. Yes it’s sleazy, but what do you expect from the man that gave us Magic Sex Genie and The Pleasure Chest? I think these blogs would be wise to follow the words of Kotaku commenter superdance14:
I’m sorry, when a person makes a living by having sex on camera, I kinda stop caring about their opinion.

Don’t hate, Ron Jeremy is a God amongst men, but John Holmes tops all, no doubt. Seriously, you don’t know how elated I was when I saw Ron Jeremy as the header picture. He’s likely the third or fourth most common topic spoke of in my school. I love it.
Honestly, why is this an issue to bloggers. Ron Jeremy is not a very influential figure and quite obviously not a tactical orator. He threw video games under the bus to get someone off his back about something a lot of repressed people have a stick up their ass about.
Porn star interviews never have any impact what-so-ever so chock this one up to people too butthurt to pick their battles wisely.
Seems like a simple dodge of a question and now the gaming industry is having a spasm about it, I believe he meant sex is more healthy for a budding mind than say.. murder, which I guess is a plausible argument if you have never raised a kid, truth be told.. most psychos that go off on murdering sprees were either obsessed with some sexual fetish, or death itself.. very are is the “son of sam” sort of killer whom gives the souls to some deity he/she imagines.
What I am saying is.. Ron is full of shit, but it was a loaded question.
“Kreyg over at Hot Blodded Gaming, while having at least an opinion on the matter, continued to blow the whole thing out of proportion”
I don’t think I blew anything out or proportion. He said what he said, making it known that’s how he feels. Just because I said he made it clear doesn’t mean I blew anything out of proportion.
But thanks for the link over to the site and checking us out.
and its BLOODED not “blodded”
