Sony Says 3D is Great, Microsoft Predictably Disagrees
After Sony’s CES press conference and their announcement that they would be making a push into 3D gaming, Microsoft has naturally decided 3D isn’t all that.
Xbox executive Aaron Greenberg has said that he thinks 3D is ‘œgreat in the theatre’ but when it comes to the upcoming technology in the living room, Greenberg said ‘œI think we’re a long ways away from [it being great]‘.
Sony’s 3D plans come in the form of 3D Blu-ray discs, as we reported yesterday. Greenberg has stated that because of the unpredictable nature of home entertainment; people walking past etc., compared to the theatre, 3D at home won’t be ‘œthe same experience”. Obviously, Greenberg isn’t impressed by much, with the him previously stating that the NXE was the “biggest moment in the history of the internet”.
Here at the Negative Gamer offices, we’ve had split opinion on the question of 3D. It seems to be one of those things that people either love, or really don’t, like Martmite.
Personally, I’ve been to see two movies in 3D and on both occasions I’ve had massive eye-strain, including severe headaches, so the thought of gaming in 3D doesn’t appeal. On the other hand some people see it as the next logical progression in televisual entertainment: SD, HD and then 3D. Right now we’re actually having a public vote on whether 3D is a gimmick, or the next big thing, which you can see here.
Either way, Microsoft obviously isn’t impressed, although I’m sure if Sony said the sky was blue, Microsoft would disagree with that too.

Hmmmm.. so Sony, a company that also happens to make and sell their own brand of televisions, says a technology that will get people to spend 3-4 thousand dollars again on a television is the future of gaming…
You don’t say..
Well, fuck that. Wake me up when we get to 3D projections instead of wearing idiotic glasses.
I don’t get how anybody can be against new technology.
