Poll: Is 3D The Next Big Thing in Gaming?
There seems to be a divide emerging over 3D. People such as myself are right and think that 3D is the next logical, technological progression. However, I’m aware of a lot of people who are wrong and think it’s not awesome, I’m curious to see how the split divides NGers. As we all know the only way to solve this issue is with an internet poll.
I’ll be closing voting at some point towards the end of the weekend or start of next week and posting the results, giving us all plenty of time to argue in the comments and reach a conclusive decision.
There’s also an option to add your own choice, if you’re unhappy with the ones provided.

I think it’s still a gimmick. Maybe one day it’ll be useful, but I can’t help feeling we’re in the power glove stage of 3D, rather than the wiimote stage.
Gimmick. I don’t know why people are getting so hyped about it now. It’s been around in cinema for years and hasn’t moved mountians yet.
Its been the next step since 1922.. the only reason the television companies, Sony among them, are trying to hype this now is because they want people to spend more than $2000 for a television again. Pass.
Considering that most developers only develop their games in 30fps it will be difficult for them to turn them into 3D games without a considerate drop in visual quality. Therefore I don’t think many companies will consider this until the market is ready. Let’s first wait and see how Bluray 3D does.
maybe in some arcade games it could be good. for example motorstorm would benifit from the gimicky spectacle. 3d would be fun. Making you go “phoar! Crikey!” but it would get old fast for sure. plus on the other hand i see it as yet another marketing distraction from what devs should be focusing on, like having non-shite storys and FUN in games.
As with movies, it wouldn’t add to emersion because it would keep reminding you that the story you’re sposed to be involved in is not real – with jumpy-outy-ness… sure itd be a fun gimick at first but is definately not a progression for gaming. actually i reckon itd be more of a regression like the inane Wii peripherals, that serve no artful purpose other than as a marketing ploy.
