Simon Cowell’s Sights set on Gaming
Gamers discontent with Activision and EA holding the monopoly on games released annually with little core difference outside of the cover art can soon look forward to a new competitor: Simon bloody Cowell. Cowell recently flapped his gums (over his startlingly white teeth) to UK men’s magazine GQ on his pre-eminent entrepreneurial partnership with Topshop’s Phillip Green. The pair coined the tentative though worrying moniker “new Disney” for their steamrolling talent show / primary colour tween clothing conglomerate, with Cowell keen to build an entertainment empire encompassing the games industry alongside his current stranglehold on television.
“I should have had 20 games [by now]“, boasted Cowell in reference to the unnerving global success of his despicably formulaic talent shows. With his usual casual modesty he followed “if you’ve got a game that’s worth more than our shows and we’re in 100 countries, something is a bit out of control.”
Phillip Green recently met with Sony CEO Howard Stringer at Cowell’s calculated setup to discuss an agreement over future videogames.
I said [to them]: ‘Look at what we can do together. You’ve got massive manufacturing capability. You’ve got retail business. You’ve got PlayStation. You’re one of the biggest TV suppliers in the world. He [Cowell] is one of the most watched men on TV!… Suddenly, people started to say: ‘You’re right.’
Disappointed that consumers are currently unable to play any current generation titles themed around laughing at the desperately over confident and mentally ill, before latching onto a publicly embraced sob story rode all the way to a glittering final, Cowell bemoans Activision for failing to make the approach to his own black cindered heart.
X-Factor should have been the initial vehicle to have Activision come to us and say: ‘You’ve got all the [consumer] traffic. Can you help launch Guitar Hero?’
Unphased by the interviewer’s subtle note that few of Cowell’s televisual exports focus on guitar, the square-headed sheen of tempered confidence replied “I’d put guitars on my show to get Guitar Hero”.
The seemingly inevitable combination of Cowell and Kotick is predicted in both Mayan lore and Nostradamus as signalling the prompt end of the world.
Cowell expects Greenwell Entertainment to be fully operable by next year.

Guitar Hero and X-Factor have entirely different… sorry, HAD entirely different audiences. They’re much closer now, but back when Harmonix were running the show, there were a few lightyears between the content of GH and the ‘content’ of Pop Idol.
Hmm, to me, Simon would be more of a perfect fit with Nintendo rather than Sony. I could definitely see a game where there is either a musical tryout and Simon would watch & listen as you ‘perform’ to the Wii.. Either that, or he could be a Wii ‘fit’ coach..
After the performance, or weigh in, he would give his sharp ‘critique’ and then the disc would be ejected, never to be played again, lol. Personally, I’d rather see a game where you can criticize him back, but I doubt he’d let that happen, heh.
